Girls Softball Program

Registration is Closed

Girls Softball is focused on teaching the basic skills of competitive softball and to inspire youth to practice the ideals of teamwork and sportsmanship.  Our goal is to develop physical fitness, self-confidence, a feeling of accomplishment and a love of the game.  Girls Softball is divided into five (5) age divisions with specific objectives.  Games are played against neighboring communities as a part of the Northern Illinois Princess League.  For the NIPL schedules, rosters, by-laws, rosters and tournament information, click here www.niplsoftball.weebly.com

#2101.201 - 8 and Under (8U):   8U is designed primarily for 7 and 8 year old girls as the beginning point for girls softball.  At this level, there are no wins and losses, and the coaches pitch to the girls.  Basic hitting and defensive skills are the focus and are very similar to the 10U level.

#2101.202 - 10 and Under (10U):  10U continues the focus on developing skills, but pitching becomes the responsibility of the players, instead of the coaches.  10U also adds a competitive element as wins, losses and a Princess League post-season tournament become part of the experience.

#2101.203 - 12 and Under (12U):  At the intermediate 12U level, the game increases in size, speed and competition level, just as girls physical growth begins to speed up.  Skills are taught at a higher level, and more athletic training is used to develop improved speed and agility.  Field dimensions increase to be the same as high school.

#2101.204 - 14 and Under (14U):  14U incorporates the same rules as high school and level of competition increases further as girls develop their athletic skills to a high level in preparation for high school softball.  At this level, the Princess League removes the requirement for girls to play a minimum number of innings.

#2101.205 - 17 and Under (17U):  The 17U level is essentially the same as high school and provides high school girls an opportunity to further develop their softball skills during the summer.  As in 14U, there is no requirement to play a minimum number of innings.

SGS GAME SCHEDULES:  Practices begin in late March or early April, depending on the weather and the coach's availability.  Coaches are asked to contact their players in the middle of March.  Games begin mid-May and run through mid-July.  Games are generally played on the following days and times (except rescheduled games).
